What is OCREC? How do I join? The Okaloosa Republican Executive Committee (OCREC) is the governing body of the Republican Party of Okaloosa County. Because counties are divided into precincts for purposes of elections and voting, the OCREC membership is made up of one man and woman from each precinct, otherwise known as Precinct Committeeman and Precinct Committeewoman.
These Committeemen and women represent the 52 Voting Precincts in Okaloosa County. Our committee along with the other 66 Counties makes up the Republican Party of Florida.
If a precinct exceeds 1000 voters, then that precinct is entitled to two Precinct Committeemen and Committeewomen (one man and woman for every 1000 voters). The idea of a Precinct Committee member is that a person living within a precinct knows his/her neighbors, the issues that affect that community and is familiar with the area. In essence, the precinct committee member becomes the liaison between the county party and the voters in that precinct. The goal of a committee member is to be able to effectively mobilize Republican voters in that precinct, get out the vote, disseminate the Republican message, implement the strategy there, make sure neighbors and friends are registered, and in turn, be your community's voice in the Republican Executive Committee.
As a “Political Party” our purpose is to promote Republican Values through education and assist in Voter Registration. In addition, we seek qualified Republicans to become candidates for public office and provide campaign support when appropriate.
The committee meets monthly on the third Monday. During the meetings, the committee votes on various matters, adopts resolutions and recommendations, and during election season becomes the center for information on issues and candidates, mobilization, organization, strategy implementation, outreach and other such matters of interest to active Republicans.
Any eligible registered Republican is eligible to serve as a Precinct Committeeman/woman and become a member of the Okaloosa County Republican Executive Committee. We are always looking for new members (no membership fees) to help the committee reach voters through grass roots efforts. Donations are always needed to enhance communication of our messages and establish a Headquarters for disbursement of voter information.
